Obama administration’s plan to cut carbon dioxide emissions

According to the plan, carbon emissions are to be reduced 30 percent from 2005 levels. In a conference call hosted by the American Lung Association, the President Obama argued that the plan would both shrink electricity prices and protect the health of  Americans. The 50 states will each determine how to meet customized targets set by the Environmental Protection Agency, then will submit those plans for approval. “This is about protecting our health and our homes. This is about protecting local economies and jobs,” said the Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Gina McCarthy. The sates will reduce polluting emissions at various percent level, considering their industry. New York has a 44 percent target but Virginia has only 19 percent to comply. The states‘ draft proposal must be ready until 2017 – 2018. The total cost to apply the plan is estimated to be $8.8 billion annually in 2030. Even this is claimed to be “the most important step taken to combat the climate crisis in our country’s history”, as the former Vice President Al Gore said, at this moment the political consensus  is not yet realized and probably the 645-page plan will be discussed step by step in its details.
