Deadly shooting incidents with many victims across Denver


At least four people are dead after a string of shootings Monday evening across the Denver metro area. A police officer and other people were injured. Denver Police exchanged fire with the suspect. He was also killed in the nearby Lakewood. “There are four significant locations where gunfire took place in the city and county of Denver,” Denver Police Chief Paul Pazen said late Monday. The incidents occurred in some shopping areas. Investigators have yet to determine a motive for the rampage, which began around 5 p.m. when the gunman shot and killed two women and wounded a man near downtown Denver. Authorities did not publicly identified the suspect. He was described by a witness as „a tall man, blond hair, with a trench coat.” The conditions of the wounded officer and civilians were not immediately known.


The estimated number of violent crimes in Colorado last year spiked to its highest level in 25 years and exceeded the national rate for the third straight year, according to statistics released Monday by the FBI. A surge in violent crime in Denver and across the state occurred throughout the pandemic. Violent crimes reported to the Denver Police Department in 2020 outnumber every other year dating back more than three decades. Nearly 100 murders were reported in 2020, marking the highest death toll recorded in Denver since 1992.
