American Airlines canceled hundreds of flights during the weekend. This decision was motivated by bad weather but in fact more to be considered are staffing shortages due the pandemic. „Our staffing begins to run tight as crew members end up out of their regular flight sequences,” the company declared. After 499 flights cancelled Saturday, 284 flights were cancelled for Sunday. Some other 300 flight were delayed this weekend. “To make sure we are taking care of our customers and providing scheduling certainty for our crews, we have adjusted our operation for the last few days this month by proactively canceling some flights,” American said. The airline said 1,800 flight attendants will return Monday and the rest will be back by December 1 for the holyday season.
A federal judge in Texas has temporarily stopped United Airlines’ plan to put employees on leave if they have requested an exemption to the company’s Covid vaccine mandate. 2,000 out of the 67,000 US United employees, or less than 3%, requested an exemption from the mandate for religious or medical reasons. “Vaccine requirements work and nearly all of United’s U.S. employees have chosen to get a shot. For a number of our employees who were approved for an accommodation, we’re working to put options in place that reduce the risk to their health and safety, including new testing regimens, temporary job reassignments and masking protocols,” American Airlines sustained.
