A teenager 17-year-old , Cristopher Brown,was killed and at least 20 others, all adults, injured in a shooting at a block birthday party, social gathering, with hundreds of people, that took place at 33rd St. and Dubois Place SE in Washington, D.C., overnight Saturday. A dispute broke out at the event. A motive is not yet known.There were multiple gunmen, at least three. A preliminary investigation indicated handguns were used in the shootings. A police officer is also in critical condition and fighting for her life. At least 11 of the victims are female.The gathering did not have a permit. The district currently restricts gatherings of more than 50 people.The police chief said that large gatherings are too dangerous during the coronavirus pandemic. “We had a lot of people that were in a dangerous situation last night and sadly several people who have no regard for human life opened fire,” said Mayor Bowser. More than 20 responding units, including D.C. Fire and EMS, arrived at the scene. 34th Street between Minnesota Avenue and D Street remained closed Sunday morning as police investigate the scene. The mayor said the gathering was illegal on a number of levels. “It is illegal to drink on the street in the District of Columbia; it is illegal to smoke marijuana on the street in the District of Columbia. It is illegal to be in a gathering of more than 50 – all of those things are not good,” she said.
