The product has already been available in some Burger King restaurants as part of a trial phase but will be available more widely starting June 27. In order to make those Doritos Locos taco shells, the American global chain of hamburger fast food restaurants headquartered in unincorporated Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States teamed up with Frito-Lay, which also paired up with Taco Bell. Restaurant chains are continuously under high pressure to become even more creative with their menus as they face the fiercely competitive fast-food market.
Alex Macedo, president of North America at Burger King, explained the company’ strategy in an interview: “We’re partnering up with one of Americans’ favorite brands.. It’s quite unique.. We’re working on a few other menu items.. There’s room for us to do more together in the future”. Earlier this year, Burger King started selling grilled Oscar Mayer hot dogs along with Chicken Fries Rings and an Egg-normous burrito. Burger King is not the only chain getting in the “creative wagon”. Others such as McDonald’s Corp., are also relying more and more on different types of discounts. One example for McDonald’s would be the two-for-$5 deal.
