The world’s most obese man dies from a heart attack at the age of 38

Moreno’s death comes after the man lost 120 kg naturally and even underwent weight loss surgery in the hope to lose an additional 80 kg. He hoped that by slimming enough he will be able to find a wife and even have one day a child with her. Football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo was among the people that encouraged Moreno in his quest to trim down excess fat. Ronaldo sent him a signed shirt just a month before his death. Moreno died several weeks after the surgery. Medics had to remove close to 70% of his stomach and re-route a big part of his small intestine during the operation. Moreno knew it wouldn’t be an easy operation but he was determined to undergo it as there was a risk he would die if he did not have it.

As the man weighed 317 kg before undergoing the operation, it took seven people just to help him out of bed and onto a reinforced stretcher. After this he was transported to the hospital where the operation was successful. After that things started looking good for Moreno. For the first time in a while he had managed to start washing himself and he also successfully walked for the first time in three years. In an interview done after undergoing surgery Moreno explained how things started to go wrong for him: “I lost my wife, who I lived with for three years and left me because I was fat… I realized I was putting on more and more weight and getting bigger but it was like a snowball I couldn’t stop. Friends and family would visit me and when they went I was left alone crying and sad because of my situation and begging God to put me back on the right path.. I hit rock-bottom when I couldn’t get out of bed and go to the toilet or wash myself”.
