Alprazolam, an  anti-anxiety medication also used to produce Xanax, was recalled nationwide by Mylan Pharmaceuticals Inc. "due to the potential presence of foreign substance" and the risk to infect a patient must be considered.

The voluntary recall includes a single lot of bottles, each containing 500 0.5-milligram tablets, that were distributed in the United States between July and August 2019. The number of the affected lot is 8082708 and the expiration date is listed as September 2020. Mylan has notified its distributors and customers about the recall by letter. Consumers must contact Stericycle at 1-888-843-0255 for the documentation packet to return product to Stericycle.
