Apparently, Pfizer is doing this against itself, producing loss, but there is a logic inside: the pharmaceutical company protects in fact its revenue competing against itself because Viagra patents have expired in several other countries and others producers will come soon on the market. The company is now trying to obtain as many sales as possible in the new conditions, having competition.
