Egyptian national Eman Ahmed was flown to Abu Dhabi after her weight came down to 170 kg

She was treated by a team of around 15 doctors from various disciplines since she was brought in Mumbai from Alexandria. Doctors reduced the size of her stomach by two-thirds, so as to reduce her food intake. “There are some lessons to be learnt from Eman’s case. I think the state government will have to form some standard operating protocol for handling such complex cases,” BJP leader Shaina NC said. Eman, a resident of Alexandria in Egypt, had not stepped out of her house for more than two decades due to her obese condition followed by a stroke that left her paralysed on one side a year ago. The goal assumed by doctors is to reduce her weight to less than 100kg in the next three years. Her initial weight was 504 kg.
