According to Dr. Deborah Gordon, an integrative medicine practitioner, these foods include: “peanuts, chocolate and carob, wheat and wheat germ, oats, soy foods, some types of nuts, peanuts, and sesame seeds.” Instead, patients should supplement with lysine (a different amino acid) until the lesions are resolved. The Center for the Biology of Chronic Disease (CBCD) also recommends taking Gene-Eden-VIR or Novirin, which are natural, antiviral products that was shown to reduce symptoms associated with herpes infection in two separate post-marketing clinical studies that followed FDA guidelines. Additionally, it was designed to help the immune system target the latent virus.
