The meat eating fish bit seventy people two months ago too when people also tried to escape high temperatures by cooling off in the river. Back then a young girl lost a part of her finger and many other swimmers suffered deep cuts to their hands, ankles and fingers.
The latest piranha attack did not came without victims either. According to local media besides the usual types of injury a boy suffered a foot wound. Authorities issue constant warnings and advise swimmers to stay away from these piranha infested rivers. While the cases in which a victim would actually die because of a piranha attack are rare, one could still suffer severe injuries to the extremities such as feet and hands.
