Sir Elton John 74-old-singer, the legendary piano man, has postponed his upcoming 2021 UK and European tour (Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour) until 2023. This will affect roughly 50 dates in the UK, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Denmark, Spain, Switzerland, Finland, Sweden, Belgium and France. ‘It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I am forced to reschedule,” Sir Elton said in a statement. He motivated the decision: „At the end of my summer break I fell awkwardly on a hard surface and have been in considerable pain and discomfort in my hip ever since. (…) The pain has continued to get worse and is leading to increasing difficulties moving.” He will still perform a short five-song set at the Global Citizen Concert event on 25 September – as he doesn’t want to let the charity down. Sir Elton will have an operation.
„I will be undertaking a program of intensive physiotherapy that will ensure a full recovery and a return to full mobility without pain.” He said he plans to resume his global tour January 19 at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans.Ticketholders for the rescheduled performances will receive new event information. It looks like Elton John’s headline show at BST Hyde Park on Friday 24 June 2022 will go ahead. A good news for fans, however: Sir Elton John, who had more than two dozen platinum albums, plans to release a guest-laden new disc, The Lockdown Sessions, next month.
