The upcoming premium music subscription tier will compete with Spotify, Deezer and Napster among other services, including Apple-owned Beats Music and Google’s own Google Play Music All Access. YouTube attracts more than 1 billion monthly viewers, with music one of its biggest categories. This can be a big financial goal. Even Google’s interest to produce money on Youtube could be justified, there is a major controversial problem: Youtube confirmed dropping content from independent labels that have not signed up for its upcoming subscription music service. Independent artists could disappear from YouTube “in a matter of days”. As an example, artists including Adele, Arctic Monkeys and Jack White could see their videos taken down. It is expected that many people will be disappointed. On the other part, a Google spokesman said the subscription-based service would bring new revenue streams for the music industry.
