Alec Baldwin was convicted

The long dramatic story of Alec Baldwin is about to end but will be a bad end for him. Alec Baldwin and armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed will each be charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter for the 2021 fatal shooting on the New Mexico set of the film “Rust,” Santa Fe First Judicial District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies and special prosecutor Andrea Reeb announced on Thursday. This could end in 18 months in prison. “After a thorough review of the evidence and the laws of the state of New Mexico, I have determined that there is sufficient evidence to file criminal charges against Alec Baldwin and other members of the ‘Rust’ film crew,” Carmack-Altwies said in a statement.

The district attorney explained that Baldwin and Gutierrez-Reed were “charged in the alternative.” This means a jury will decide not only if the two are guilty but will also decide which definition of involuntary manslaughter their actions fall under. Baldwin’s lawyer, Luke Nikas, declared this is „a terrible miscarriage of justice.” „We will fight these charges, and we will win,” he added. Halyna Hutchins, 42, was working as a cinematographer on the Western when she was shot and killed by the film’s star, Baldwin, during an accident because using the gun as required, Baldwin had no reason to believe there was a live bullet inside.
