The movie cost was $90 million and it only generated $21 million domestically. Globally it only managed to generate $48 million by the time in left movie theaters. There could be many reasons why the film was unsuccessful and one of those could be because Arnold Schwarzenegger did not play the role of Conan.
Conan the Barbarian (the original movie from 1982) presented the tale of child that ended up being sold as a slave. After he grows he seeks revenge against the warlord that massacred his entire tribe. The movie ended with Arnold on the throne as a seasoned warrior. The movie “Legend of Conan” will continue from this point and will feature Arnold Schwarzenegger as Conan the Barbarian.
Schwarzenegger declared to the press: “I always loved the Conan character and I’m honored to be asked to step into the role once again. I can’t wait to work with Universal and the great team of Fredrik Malmberg and Chris Morgan to develop the next step of this truly epic story.”
The story and screenplay for this upcoming Conan film will be written by Chris Morgan (known for Fast and the Furious 3 to 6). Chris Morgan will also be busy with Fast and the Furious 7. Legend of Conan is due to hit theatre screens in 2014. Paradox Entertainment holds the Conan rights so both Fredrik Malmberg from Paradox and Morgan will have a lot of work in producing the film.
