The filming was finished not to long ago and the movie is being split in the above three mentioned parts. The movie “The Hobbit” is a prequel to the story from the movie “The Lord of the Rings”.
The decision to make the movie into a trilogy comes shortly after the filming was finished. Enough material was filmed for three films. At Comic-Con, home of the largest comic book and popular arts convention in the world, rumors were that “The Hobbit” won’t be a dilogy but a trilogy.
Peter Jackson dismissed all those rumors back then. The confirmation comes now via a press release:
“It is only at the end of a shoot that you finally get the chance to sit down and have a look at the film you have made. Recently Fran, Phil and I did just this when we watched for the first time an early cut of the first movie – and a large chunk of the second.”
