Adam Savage broke the news by saying: “It’s not only the end of this episode, it’s not only the end of this season – it is also the end of an era”. Jamie Hyneman followed by saying: “This season we are going back to our origins with just Adam and me”.
The new format of the show is an abrupt change for fans who fell in love with the show that entertained all of us for the past 10 years.. Kari Byron, Grant Imahara and Tory Belleci said their goodbyes to all their fans on popular social networking websites.
Belleci tweeted “It’s been an amazing ride for 10 years! .. We couldn’t have done it without you guys. You’re the best fans anyone could wish for. Thank you. We are going to miss you guys! So much love & support. If it wasn’t for you guys, MythBusters wouldn’t have been possible.”
Kari Byron had the following last words to say on Twitter: “Thank you to all the fans who have supported us. The show is taking a new direction. It was an amazing run. I learned so much about myself and the world. I love you all. I am sad for an ending but there will be exciting new adventures for us.”
Grant Imahara also thanked MythBusters for allowing the team to teach science in a totally different way and also for the explosions from the show. Discovery reportedly decided to keep only Jamie and Adam because of reportedly not as good as expected ratings. While the show got 1.1 million for the summer premiere the rating overtime shows a decline. In the spring of 2011 a premier got 1.8 million views and a special episode in which President Obama was also featured back in 2010 got more than 2 million views. The view count is also smaller in comparison to other Discovery hit shows like Bering Sea Gold or Gold Rush. Some fans believe that this move could mean the beginning of the end for the show while others just hope for the best.
“Thanks MythBusters for allowing us to teach science in a whole new way,” Imahara tweeted. “Also, explosions. Now, on to the next adventure!”
