Klum will be replacing Sharon Osbourne who departed from the show following its 7th season. Osbourne had left the network quite controversially claiming that they had fired Jack, her son, following his diagnosis of multiple sclerosis.

NBC’s President of Alternative and Late Nite Programing, Paul Telegdy, said that the show and network would benefit from Klum’s international sensibility. He added that Klum’s having vast experience across several media platforms will bring her understanding in terms of what works within today’s entertainment industry.

Klum exclaimed that she was excited to be joining the show and that she couldn’t wait to join the judging panel to see what the contestants had to offer firsthand. She added that she loved the element of surprise the show had in terms of never knowing what is to be expected. She also said that she is looking forward to spending time with fellow jusdges Mel B, Howard Stern and Howie Mendel.
