The watercolor of Munich’s old city hall is thought to be from 1914. It was purchased by the former owner two years after Hitler painted it. A pair of elderly sisters got this painting from their grandfather who was the one purchasing the watercolor back in 1916. It was estimated that the painting would be sold for $50000 but the top winning bid was far bigger.
This is primarily because the former painting owner also provided the original bill of sale. Furthermore the painting came to the auction together with a letter from the brother of Hitler’s private secretary and also the dictator’s adjutant in which it was stated that the painting appears to be “one of the works of the Fuehrer.”
