She was addicted to heroin for years before she successfully completed rehab in 1983. In a statement Friday on Natalie Cole’s death, Recording Academy President and CEO Neil Portnow said: “We are very saddened to learn of the passing of one of music’s most celebrated and iconic women, Natalie Cole.” At the age of 6, Natalie sang on her father’s Christmas album. During her own singing carrier, she sold over 30 million records worldwide. Natalie Cole had a secondary career in acting and also made several appearances in films and TV shows and television series. She had been three times married: to Marvin Yancy, songwriter and producer; to Andre Fischer, record producer and former drummer for the band Rufus and to bishop Kenneth Dupree (they divorced in 2004).
