It seems that this is a family disease that follows women in Jolie’s family especially when considering that Angelina’s mother died in 2007, at age 56, of ovarian cancer. This year in February after the Hollywood actress revealed that she had undergone a double mastectomy to avoid the disease most of us were shocked by her decision. Now that her mother’s younger sister also died people are starting to realize that having the defective gene BRCA1 poses great risks.
The 37-year-old actress, who has six children, finished three months of medical procedures back in 27 April. Angelina Jolie had an 87 % risk of breast cancer and a 50% risk of ovarian cancer and now managed to decrease the risk of having breast cancer to less than 5%.
Debbie Martin, Angelina Jolie’s aunt, died at the age of 61 in a hospital in Escondido, near San Diego, California, according to her husband Ron.
Ron Martin says that his wife was a carrier of the gene. Unfortunately she has not been aware of her situation until she was diagnosed with cancer in 2004. In the same year aunt’s Jolie ovaries were removed to lessen the chances that the disease to return. This only gave her some more years to live.
