Jeanne died on Wednesday morning during her sleep. The news has been confirmed by her son and the actor, Corbin Bernsen who conveyed the message on Facebook. A CBS network spokesperson stated that the family confirmed the death to CBS.
On April 12, the actors son, Corbin Bernsen tweeted that his mother struggled with an “uphill battle” due to an undisclosed sickness. In the following days, he wrote about her gradual improvement and stated that she was taken off from the breathing tool.
Announcing her death, on Wednesday her son Bernsen wrote that she stayed a fighter till the very end.
Jeanne Cooper joined the daytime opera 6 months after its debut on March 1973. She was the longest-tenured cast member of the show. The role of Katherine Chancellor earned her eleven Daytime Emmy nominations alongside an award for the “best actress in drama series” back in 2008.
