Walmart recalled approximately 3,900 bottles of Better Homes and Gardens’ essential oil infused aromatherapy spray with gemstones, manufactured by Flora Classique Inc., 5-ounce glass bottles, which were distributed to approximately 55 Walmart stores nationwide between February and October. The presence of a rare and dangerous bacteria, Burkholderia pseudomallei which causes melioidosis, is supposed. Four confirmed melioidosis cases were reported in Kansas, Minnesota, Texas and Georgia and two of them resulted in death, including one child fatality. “We are deeply concerned that there may be a connection between this product and this rare bacteria,” a spokeperson of Walmart declared. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled room spray.
Symptoms for localized melioidosis infections include localized pain or swelling, fever, ulceration, or an abscess. Pulmonary melioidosis infection symptoms can include cough, chest pain, high fever, headache and anorexia, while bloodstream melioidosis infection symptoms include fever, headache, respiratory distress, abdominal discomfort, joint pain, and disorientation. A disseminated infection’s symptoms can include fever, weight loss, stomach or chest pain, muscle or join pain, headache, central nervous system or brain infection, and even seizures. The illness appear two to four weeks after exposure.
