Britain’s Court of Appeal upheld the judgment that Samsung did not infringe Apple’s design with its Galaxy tablet.
Samsung is happy with this decision and commented “We continue to believe that Apple was not the first to design a tablet with a rectangular shape and rounded corners”. As part of the final ruling Apple needs to run advertisements with apologies, both printed and online, saying that Samsung did not copy the design of its iPad. Furthermore the font size on these advertisements needs to be at least Arial 14.
The decision can now be attacked only in the Supreme Court. Although Samsung might have won this trial it did not win the war against Apple. This summer it lost a trial against Apple and was ruled to pay $1.05 billion for infringing on Apple’s patents. The tablet and smart phone war goes on in courtrooms across many countries.
