Microsoft will pay between $1.5 and $1.8 billion dollars to market their new platform. Windows 8 will launch on October 26th and Microsoft already began its massive campaign in some parts of the U.S.. Microsoft Surface tablet will launch on the same day. Microsoft already paid for a large billboard in Time Square, some graffiti temporary ads in cities such as Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, and for different other ad placements to promote its product.
This campaign will be huge when compared to previous Microsoft launch campaigns. Market analysts even compared Microsoft’s marketing effort to the one made in presidential elections. For its old operating system Windows 95 Microsoft spent just $200 million in marketing costs. Now, given the size of the upcoming Windows 8 campaign it’s hard to tell how it will be like.
