Snapseed is very similar to the popular Instagram as it provides a quick way for users to apply digital filters to their photos.
“Snapseed is the only photo application you’ll want to use every day everywhere. Now you can easily add amazing effects, enhance your photos and share them with the world.” as described on Nik Software’s homepage.
Snapseed was last year iPad application of the Year for iPad. With Nik Software acquisition Google plans to make Snapseed and other imaging editing mobile software available on its Android mobile operating system.
Nik Software is quite popular on iPad. But with over 9 million installs it is still 11 times less popular than Instagram. Besides porting Snapseed to Android Ice Cream Sandwich, Google might also include Nik Software imaging editing algorithms in its Google+ platform. This way it will compete better against the ever growing social network Facebook.
