She estimated $17,000 in lost business and additional expenses because of the failed upgrade which damaged her computer. Microsoft’s support technicians were never able to restore her PC to its former operational state and finally one of them told her “Do not ever contact me again.” Goldstein came in court prepared with documentation. Arguing that the forced upgrade was non-consensual and resulted in lost wages, she was awarded the $10,000 judgment. Microsoft’s upgrade strategy is to force clients to use Windows 10 even if customers reject it. An important number of complaints was filled and probably Goldstein’s case will serve as an example for future decisions in courts. A petition asking the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) to investigate was sent.
