The project , dubbed “Marea”, will begin in August, this year and will be completed in October 2017. The cable will have an estimated data capacity of a whopping 160 terabits per second. It will be operated by Telxius, the telecommunications infrastructure company of communications giant Telefónica. More resilient and reliable connections for customers in the United States and Europe are expected. Facebook will be using the cable to push vast amounts of information between its expanding network of data centers and for data linked to Instagram and WhatsApp. In fact, this is the first step for building the next generation infrastructure of the Internet, which will grow in the next years.
