NBC News has now the full control of the former msnbc.com network that was once part of Microsoft Corp. The site was immediately re-branded.
NBC News Digital the new division of NBC News will be led by Vivian Schiller according to Steve Capus, the current NBC news president. Schiller joined NBC News as chief officer last year after he stepped out from the National Public Radio where he was president and chief executive.
The company says that users should not worry about other changes. Everything else will remain the same. The site will keep its current format and only the URL will be different. In a press release NBC News relates that they would not change anything else since “There’s nothing that needs to be fixed.”
The transition was planned and lasted two years. Microsoft had a 50% percent joint venture with NBCUniversal that lasted for 16 years. NBCNews will continue to distribute news to Microsoft’s portal MSN.com.
