Redbox operates a total of over 40000 kiosks and given the fact that it had been running out of new places to put its rental machines, the company decided to avoid saturation by uninstalling more than 500 of its kiosks. The company’s success was ensured by its $1/day rental model. But Redbox began offering more than DVDs as the business model picked up: adding both games and blu-ray movies. Fifteen percent of disc rentals from the last quarter represent Blu-ray discs.

Redbox tried to grow even more by selling event and concert tickets but the idea was abandoned in less than a year. Last year it has publicly launched the Redbox Instant service but its streaming service never picked up. Now, after all this many are wondering what’s next for Redbox.
