Around 22000 software developers participated in this year’s qualification round. Out of these only 60% qualified for Round 1. People’s attention quickly directed towards India as 23% of all people who qualified for Round 1 of Google Code Jam were from India.
Day one of Google Code Jam’s Round one passed and an expert analysis of user submitted code revealed a shocking truth. Some software developers from India were immediately suspected of trying to cheat after their code was found to be 100% identical. The act of which three Indian coders were accused of generated outrage amongst fellow engineers.
While Google did not confirm or infirm this yet the social world talks about the incident ever since. The contest is run by some of smartest minds in this world and trying to cheat at it is the ultimate insult.
