Jeff Bezos, 54, the world's richest person, founder and chief executive of Amazon.com Inc, and wife MacKenzie Bezos, are divorcing after 25 years of marriage, the couple said in a joint statement on Twitter on Wednesday.

The couple decided to divorce after a long period of "loving exploration" and trial separation, and expect to continue as partners in joint ventures and projects. MacKenzie Bezos, 48, is an author who grew up in San Francisco, who met her husband when interviewing for a job at a New York hedge fund. They got engaged after three months of dating and got married in 1993. She did the accounting for the Amazon company in its first year. They are parents to four children, including three sons and one daughter who was adopted from China.The split could lead the costliest divorce is history, even if the couple doesn’t divide the money equally.

Bezos became a millionaire only in 1997, four years after they got married. The couple last year launched a charitable fund together, dubbed the Day One Fund. “We've had such a great life together as a married couple, and we also see wonderful futures ahead, as parents, friends, partners in ventures and projects, and as individuals pursuing ventures and adventures. Though the labels might be different, we remain a family, and we remain cherished friends,” Bezos said now announcing divorce.
