Some drivers on the side of Arizona Interstate 10 believed Monday that astronauts touched down in the desert. They even contacted authorities after spotting a space capsule, without knowing that was not for real a space capsule but a cement truck drum repurposed into a piece of art by the artist Jack Millard.
The capsule had a parachute attached to it, in addition to having the words "United States and Capt. J. Millard" along with an American flag emblazoned on the side. The artist confessed to media how he got the idea and it was a simple fact: he was driving through the area, spotted the abandoned cement truck sitting in the field and thought it looked like the capsules astronauts would use for space missions. "I just get these impulses to create," he told the media. After finishing the artwork he was obliged to explain to the police what it is. Their reaction was enough deceptive and the artist later said what he thinks: "I don't know what to expect. If they enjoy it, that's great. We live in such a cynical, jaded world. If it distracts them for a moment, that's a wonderful thing."
