South Sudan is furious as they put blame on Sudan for heavy gunshots and bombings on their troops while their pullout from the Heglig oil field in Sudan.
The Juba government took over Heglig, the core of the Sudan oil production on the 10th of April, accusing the Khartoum government of turning the oil hub into a military base dedicated to hit Unity State, one of South Sudan’s major oil reserves.
The two neighbors have been in dispute about the control over Heglig for a very long time.
On Friday, the South’s president, Salva Kiir proclaimed that the troops would perform "an orderly withdrawal" form the affected area.
Later on Sunday, president Kiir stated that his army faced aerial bombing by the Khartoum air force while returning home. The bombing occurred during the night of April 20th and continued all over the next morning.
On Sunday, a spokesman from the ‘Sudan People's Liberation Army (SPLA)’ ensured that the Southern army had left Heglig. He also claimed that their army unshackled the area before Kiir ordered the recall.
The South government’s 10-occupation received extensive criticism from neighbor nations and western powers. It was branded illicit by Ban Ki-moon, UN chief.
Agnes Oswaha, the South’s UN ambassador told the press that the country has absolutely no intention to head back to the violent episode of war and to show that Juba has called off its force.
Contradictory explanations for the recent developments were published from both sides.
Tension is mounting up over the recent clash in the border areas and many other unresolved issues. The concern of any further warfare is raising fear among the people in general.
Continental along with foreign heavyweights have urged both sides to find the middle ground as soon as possible to avoid any future collision.
Kiir will be off to China, a long time ally of the Khartoum government on Monday. But in the recent days, Beijing is in closer ties with the South, particularly in petroleum sector.
Li Guangyi, professor of the ‘Institute of African Studies at the University of Xiangtan’ said that China isn’t taking any sides. Urging peace and stability is the only concern right now. He added that disagreement and fighting won’t bring any good to the Sudan’s and definitely not to China.
‘African Union (AU)’ has called for quick negotiation through the resumption of conversation from both regions.
