Serena Williams, 35, who announced she was engaged to Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian in December confirmed she is pregnant, Expected to give birth in September. It's known Williams intends to sit out the remainder of the 2017 season and return next year.
The tennis star hinted at the good news when she posted a photo of herself on Snapchat wearing a swimsuit and revealing what appeared to be a large baby bump with the caption '20 weeks' on Wednesday. The snap was deleted less than a half hour later. The Womens Tennis Association, which listed Williams as scheduled to enter next month's Madrid Open as recently as Monday, said they had yet to be contacted by anyone from the American's team regarding her status.
If Williams is indeed 20 weeks into her term, that would mean she was approximately two months pregnant when she captured her record 23rd Grand Slam tournament singles title at the Australian Open in January. Williams has not played since her Australian Open win in January, citing a knee injury. She has played professionally for two decades, first gaining the number one ranking in 2002.
